Gambrinus is a local born together with our country back in 1860 and since its foundation has distinguished itself in the city for beauty and cultural importance, becoming a key meeting point for celebrities of all sorts.
Whether a monument of Naples is known all over the world and that the atmosphere of the Neapolitan Belle Epoque still breathes in its rooms, it is obvious to anyone who sets foot, but remember the name and the face of those who helped make it so great it is not always easy.
One of these is certainly Giovanni Fummo, the oldest coffee master, who has twenty years of experience behind the counter and is a fundamental point of reference, not only for young people who, thanks to him, steal the secrets of the trade, but also for loyal customers who find in him a friendly and smiling face.
The beginnings of a great success:
Giovanni Fummo’s adventure at Gambrinus started very early, at the tender age of 7, and since then the fate, which will lead him to become one of his most beloved and long-lived faces, begins to weave his plots: the teacher grows its beautiful rooms and refines, year after year, its art, receiving compliments and honors even by famous people. In particular, there are four presidents that he remembers to have greeted with a handshake (Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, Francesco Cossiga, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and Giorgio Napolitano) and to this honorable list is also added the special espresso prepared for Bill Clinton.
With his presence alone Fummo is a living testimony of the immense historical value of the place and of the glories he has received and still receives, because it preserves the memory, more than any photo.
The record of 12 million coffee!
Giovanni Fummo is also remembered by everyone for having won a very important record: that of having prepared and served twelve million coffees over the course of his long career!
The blend he uses is that of Moreno coffee but what makes his product special is above all the great experience and timeless passion for a job he loves.
